A curated list of free sounds, patterns, patches, software, firmware information, and learning resources for the Elektron Model:Cycles FM groovebox.

The Model:Cycles is a six-track FM drum machine and groovebox. It is not a sample player: most “packs” below contain Model:Cycles presets, kits, projects, or rendered audio loops. Read the file types before downloading.

Start here

1. Elektron Model:Cycles support and downloads — official OS 1.13, Elektron Transfer, manuals, troubleshooting, and technical information.
2. Elektron Transfer — the current official tool for transferring Model:Cycles presets, sounds, projects, and firmware.
3. Back up the machine before loading third-party projects or presets. Keep an untouched backup of the factory project and your own work.
4. Start with the Wavparty pack or URRRS project if you want complete, immediately playable material. Start with Arki if you want a smaller preset-only collection.

Free presets, kits, and projects

Complete packs

• Wavparty Model:Cycles Sound Pack 01 — free pack containing 96 presets, 16 kits, 16 patterns, and one project file. The page documents Elektron Transfer as the installation tool. [Free]
• URRRS Model:Cycles project — a free project described as 6 banks × 16 patterns × 96 kits, covering multiple tempos and styles. Also includes rendered four-bar loops for people without a Model:Cycles. [Free]
• 260 Free Drum Patterns for Model:Cycles — a free download of four project files translating the 260 Drum Patterns book into Model:Cycles projects. Includes a table of contents and is intended as a study/source-material pack. [Free]

• RedStripeDown free preset pack — an Elektronauts thread pointing to a free Model:Cycles preset pack and related search terms. The thread is useful as a discovery page; check the current download and licensing terms before using it. [Free/community link]
• AUDIOSLAB free mini-packs — a larger commercial collection with Claps and Utility marked free in the thread, plus paid Ambient, Chip, Classic, Dance, Elektrik, Hardcore, Hiphop, Minimal, Realism, and Replica packs. Multisamples are also mentioned. [Free subset + paid bundle]

Official and paid reference pack

• Amby by Elin Piel — official Model:Cycles pack with 64 .mcpst presets. It is paid, but useful as a quality reference for ambient, crystalline percussion, synth, tom, and sound-effect design. [Paid]

Free audio and sample material

These are useful for listening, resampling, or using with another sampler. They are not interchangeable with Model:Cycles preset files.

Official software, OS, and documentation

• Model:Cycles support page — canonical download location. The page states that its files are for personal use and must not be modified or redistributed.
• Model:Cycles OS 1.13 — official firmware package. OS 1.13 adds Power Handle/battery support, USB audio improvements, MIDI behavior fixes, and other bug fixes.
• OS 1.13 release notes — installation instructions and changes from OS 1.12 to 1.13.
• Model:Cycles User Manual, English — the primary reference for synthesis, sequencing, MIDI, backups, and menus.
• Elektron Transfer — official macOS and Windows transfer software. The current page lists Transfer 1.10.4 and says it handles presets, sounds, projects, and firmware updates for Model:Cycles.
• Elektron C6 — legacy SysEx utility mentioned in Elektron’s support documentation. Elektron notes that C6 is not compatible with macOS Catalina and later; prefer Transfer on a current Mac. The direct download URL currently returns 404, so do not use random mirrors.

MIDI, editors, librarians, and utilities

• Elektroid — open-source GPL-3.0 sample and MIDI device manager. Its project documentation lists Elektron Model:Cycles support, including SysEx transfer. Most useful if you work on Linux or want a scriptable/open-source alternative.
• Models — Unlicense Go package for programmatic MIDI control of several synthesizers, including Model:Cycles. Useful for building custom controllers, experiments, and automation.
• Edisyn — open-source synthesizer patch editor/library framework. It is not a confirmed Model:Cycles editor, but it is useful background for MIDI patch editing and for checking whether a device definition exists or could be added.
• Model:Cycles Editor by Momo Müller — unofficial VST/AU/standalone editor reported to control all six tracks, expose hidden LFO/FX parameters, select patterns, and automate parameters from a DAW. The historical Synthtopia report lists it as paid; check current macOS compatibility and purchase terms before relying on it. [Paid/unofficial]

Sequencing and randomisation

• Model:Cycles random machine — historical Web MIDI randomiser for machine-track parameters. The domain did not resolve during the 2026-08-20 check, so treat this as an archival lead rather than a working recommendation.
• Tensor kit and pattern randomiser thread — iOS randomisation discussion for the Model line. Check whether the app still exists and whether Model:Cycles support remains current.
• Model:Cycles and Max/MSP control — newer community thread for custom Max/MSP control and external sequencing ideas.

Learning and reference

• Model:Cycles shortcuts and techniques — community Google Sheet of shortcuts, gestures, and techniques. The author notes that some later worksheets were not fully tested.

• Model:Cycles Tips & Tricks thread — long-running community thread with sound-design techniques. Examples include using the chord machine in unison, LFO modulation of Color/Shape, and unconventional rhythmic and timbral uses.

• Elektronauts Model:Cycles forum — forum, downloads, troubleshooting, and user projects.
• r/Elektron — broader Elektron community; search for Model:Cycles, M:C, sysex, mcpst, and project.
• r/Modelcycles — smaller device-specific subreddit for tips and questions.
• Elektron official sound packs — official catalog. Filter for Model:Cycles and check for free demos or promotional packs.

Unofficial operating systems

No credible, maintained alternative Model:Cycles OS was found in this search. The public ecosystem is focused on presets, projects, MIDI control, and editors. Do not treat forum speculation about flashing Model:Samples firmware onto Model:Cycles as a usable unofficial OS.

Important facts from Elektron’s release notes:

• Model:Cycles OS 1.13 is the current official OS listed on the support page checked here.
• Downgrading is not supported and is performed at the user’s risk.
• User content may be lost during an OS operation.
• Some upgrades also update the bootstrap; do not power off until the device tells you to reboot.

If a future reverse-engineering project appears, check that it has source code, device-specific documentation, reproducible release files, recent issue activity, and a recovery path before testing it on hardware.

Safety and transfer notes

• Back up projects and sounds before loading any third-party file.
• Use Elektron Transfer for current macOS. Avoid old C6 workflows on modern macOS unless you have a tested legacy setup.
• Confirm that a download is for Model:Cycles, not Model:Samples, Digitakt, Digitone, or another Elektron device.
• .mcpst files are presets. Project archives and SysEx files have different scopes and overwrite risks.
• Test third-party packs in an empty or disposable project first.
• Keep a local copy of the original download and record its source URL. Community hosts and Gumroad pages can disappear.
• Respect each creator’s licence and redistribution terms. “Free download” does not automatically mean public-domain or commercially unrestricted.

Contributing

Add a resource with:

1. A stable URL.
2. The exact Model:Cycles file type or compatibility.
3. A clear Free, Paid, Free demo, or Unverified label.
4. The date last checked.
5. A short note about installation, licensing, or known limitations.

Please do not submit firmware obtained from unofficial mirrors without a verifiable source and recovery instructions.

Sources and curation notes

Primary sources were checked against the official Elektron support/download and release-note pages, creator download pages, GitHub repositories, and Elektronauts community threads. A link being listed means it was reachable during the check; it does not guarantee that a third-party download remains safe, free, maintained, or legally redistributable. Reddit returned HTTP 403 to the automated link checker, so those community URLs were retained as known discovery links rather than treated as download validation.
